MILES FROM KINSASHA OVERBOARD

The Congolese-born, South London raised Vivien Kongolo, aka Miles from Kinshasa, had us in a rapture with a triptych of capitalised, future-soul singles ‘IVRY’, ‘KAYA’ and ‘FIREWORKS’ that exposed gorgeously deep rhythms, spacious synths and MFK’s poignant one-liners. Just last month, the relative newcomer shared ‘Could We Just Talk Instead?’, a lo-fi love song flying under the radar, but introducing a softer side to Miles from Kinshasa’s sound. With newest track ‘Overboard’, the Londoner combines dreamy romanticism with his self-styled rumba-pop sound in a menagerie of hefty backbeats, subtle bassline, feelgood funk guitar repetitions and Kongolo’s expressive vocal. ‘Overboard’ also happens to be the latest cut from the artist’s upcoming mini-album, LIMBO. True to his poetic outlook, Miles from Kinshasa has shared this pre-release statement: “Millennial existential crisis, relationship issues, spirituality, duality, mourning, fear of adulthood, belonging, religion. These feelings of not knowing what to feel, what to think, what to do, who to be, what to believe in, who you will become. The project poses questions that are still trying to be answered rather than trying to impart some kind of realisation or post-adolescent wisdom. Laying in LIMBO demands patience you may not possess yet in order for you to overcome and heal. Hold tight, endure your wait." Look out for LIMBO on October 6th and if you’re around London on October 18th, get yourself down to Bermondsey Social Club for headline show. - HT
